It's easy to fall into a drab home style when you're decorating your house. Since you don't want to make a mistake and create discordance, you may be hesitant when it comes to having too many loud items. This may lead you to a dilemma where you're unsatisfied with the current state of your interior space, but don't know where to start with improving it's personality. Use these ways to add interest and update a boring room.
Since pillows and blankets are easy to swap out, they are a great start to make a room more interesting. If you're focusing on the living room, you can switch your throw pillow covers to versions that have distinct patterns, colors, and textures. If the rest of the space is pared-back, the pillows small size will keep them from overpowering the furniture and other accessories.
You could also drape a blanket on a sofa to give it extra color, pattern, and texture. In a bedroom, you can use the same idea with pillowcases and bed covers.
Bare, hard floors aren't just cold they can also be quite plain. You can effectively liven them up by setting down a captivating rug. Like pillows and blankets, rugs can become the focal points of an otherwise bland room. If you don't want to go too colorful with them, you can choose high-pile rugs to contrast with your furniture and fixtures. Rugs with highly visible weaves can also be stimulating in neutral hues. If you do want to make your rug pop with color, there are many possibilities open to you. Think about your room's overall style to decide what rug will work. For example, if your room is minimalistic, you could get a bright yellow rug with no patterns. This will keep things simple, while still bringing in some energy.
