Important Outdoor Home Maintenance Tips

By Kayla Keena

Owning  a  home  can  come  with  some  work.  However, if you schedule regular maintenance, it decreases the chances of things deteriorating quickly. It is beneficial to follow some important outdoor home maintenance tips to keep the exterior of your home clean and in good shape.

Landscaping

Planting  and  watching  landscaping flourish is the fun part, but you must also maintain your garden.

Take  a walk around the property (weather permitting) and look for   branches   and   twigs   which  have  fallen  on  the  ground. Freshen  your lawn by tidying things up here and there. You can also  pull  dead  flowers  or  trim  shrubs  and  bushes  if they've gotten  out  of  control.  Trees  may  seem  like  they  don't need maintenance  because  they  are so large. However, take a good look at the ones in your yard.

Unfortunately,  due  to  disease,  trees  can  die  and  may  have  to  come  down. If there is a tree that just doesn't look right, have it checked out by a professional arborist.

If  tree  removal is necessary, never remove a tree without the help of a professional tree service. It may leave behind more damage than you bargained for.

Power Wash

Having a chaotic week? Let out some stress by spraying the exterior of your home with your own or rental power washer.

Decks, driveways, walkways, and siding can all look brand new with a good power washing.

Be sure to clearly understand the directions and different strengths before beginning a power washing session.

Gutters

Gutters are great collectors of water, dirt, twigs, and leaves. Rainwater will wash out some of it, but plenty gets left behind.

Using a ladder and a good pair of gloves, you may want to clean out the gutters before they get clogged.

Paint

Paint covers a multitude of blemishes, especially on doors and trims.

Any painted areas on the exterior of a home will eventually need some touching up or a coat of fresh paint.

Try  to  save  a  small  amount  of paint once a door or trim is complete, so you have it on hand for touch-ups. Also, you may want to keep a log of what colors you use and their codes (found on the lid of a paint can) for when you need a quick reorder of paint at the store.

Following these important home maintenance tips and adding to your own list will keep your home looking beautiful and free from some major maintenance issues.
